Camp Fletcher has a garden where we raise produce. Some is served in our camp kitchen and some is sold at Bessemer’s twice-weekly farmers’ market. A few days ago our campers were given a tour of the garden. Each child got the chance to plant an onion. “May I help?” asked one of children of one of the grownups working in the garden. “Me too, me too,” chimed in another and then another and another. In the blink of an eye we had a bunch of enthusiastic and very cute farmers having a great time with shovels, hoes and rakes.
